You’ve broken up with your partner and parted your separate ways for a while. Despite whatever your partner feels you personally want to get back together. But before you do anything about this there is a big question that has to be asked. The answer to this question determines whether you are going to be happier with your partner or making a clean break and starting over afresh.
Should You Get Back With Your Ex?
I know at the moment you feel the answer to this question is “yes” or you would not be here right now. Although you want to get your ex back it is important that you be totally honest with yourself at this time.
It is human nature to look for the best in most situations and the tendency is to try to hang onto the relationship. But sometimes relationships have genuinely run their course and it is time to let go. So you must be careful not to tie to yourself and fool yourself into trying to continue a relationship that is past it’s sell by date.
There are two basic questions you have to answer to decide this and see if there is a future in getting your ex back or not.
Do you still have feelings for him?
Although you may well have feelings about your relationship, they can be divided into positive and negative feelings. Genuine feelings of love and desire are obviously positive. But there can also be negative feelings where you are using him as a crutch because he solves a potential problem you may have without him. For example. You could be thinking you don’t want to lose him because you are at an age where finding another partner could be a problem. This is a negative reason
You have to make sure the reasons for getting back together are positive ones. Otherwise you can trap yourself in a potential living hell for the rest of your life or until the relationship finally and irretrievably breaks down.
Does your ex still have feelings for you?
It takes two to tango. Your partner has to feel the same way as you do to make getting back together feasible. If not then you will be facing an uphill battle.
But you have to bear in mind that your ex could be in a state of self-denial and lying to themselves about how they really feel; so it’s going to be difficult to really know whether they are telling the truth or not.
Unfortunately, it is often difficult to tell whether your ex still have feelings for you. What your ex says can be very different from what he/she meant.
So what is needed is some way of testing your partners reaction to check whether they really do still have enough love in them to make your relationship work. That is something I will be covering in another article. In the meantime here's a little video that covers the subject.
